Rhinoplasty

Medically reviewed by Dr. Shirin Milani / Dr. Veith Moser — Specialists in Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery (Austrian Medical Chamber)Last updated: 26.03.2026

You can hide a stomach that's a little too big, but unfortunately you can't hide a nose that's too big. And so an unflattering nose as the center of the face often becomes an unpleasant eye-catcher that you can't avoid. Those affected often grow up with a crooked nose or a nose that is too big and struggle with it for the rest of their lives. Then what many see as a beauty flaw quickly becomes a psychological burden: those affected do not feel well and try to turn into the right position every time they take a photo in order to conceal the flaw.

Rhinoplasty

Rinoplasty and nose surgery

Rinoplasty and nose operations are particularly suitable for those people who are not only dissatisfied with their nose, but also clear be able to define what bothers them. In addition to the aesthetic defect, there is often also a medical problem (e.g. obstruction to nasal breathing due to a curvature of the nasal septum). This can be remedied in the same operation.
Often, however, the reasons are not just of an aesthetic nature.? In reconstructive surgery, corrections to the nose are often necessary, for example due to an accident or a congenital deformity. Complex reconstructive techniques are used particularly for open nasal injuries. Here the skin was destroyed due to an accident and the underlying cartilage and bone material was exposed. ??The techniques of rhinoplasty are also used in the case of deformities such as cleft nose, cleft lip, cleft jaw, cleft palate and the associated typical nasal deformity. Such defects can usually only be corrected in several surgical steps and require a lot of specialist knowledge and experience on the part of the treating surgeon.
